Even though I've been kind of too busy since the last update to have made much progress.
I'm giving myself a high-five anyways...
Goal #1:
The problem with this is that now the push-ups are significantly harder and my nails are digging into my palms. I guess I can alternate between the two methods until I find something better.
Oh, and I've joined up with a site called Fitocracy. Basically, you do various exercises, you get points for doing them, achievements, and level up. It works based on an honor system as no one can really prove that you've done the exercises but lying about it only hurts yourself. I find it's a good way to keep track of what you're doing and even though all I do is sporadic push-ups, it's still something.
You can follow me if you want. Just search for DWei and we can encourage each other in our bid to become more healthy.
Could be worse I guess.
Goal #2:
The job hunt has not gone well. There is virtually nothing for Psychology students. Nothing. I have looked all over and in my city, all they want are Engineers. You know it's bad when you search for "Psychology Internship" and the top results come back as "Engineer Internships".
Right now, this is the only kind of Engineer I want to see.
I've extended my search to neighboring cities and I'm even considering the Canadian Army. Apparently, if you have a degree that matters more to them and you start off better. So I've heard. I'll give more details into this as I look into it, my courses have been eating up a lot of my time.
A fellow Psychology student suggested that I look into Speech Pathology or a similar career route. All I'd be required to do is take a few more years of courses in Linguistics. I've never even considered this but I'll certainly look into it when time permits.
Also, has anyone else been getting paid significantly less from advertising? My traffic has gone up but my earnings have dwindled. Seeing as this blog is major part of my current income I'm a bit concerned.
Oh and current debt to parents is currently $5200 Canadian.
Goal #3:
Looks like I'm just really bad for finishing things. I have a project on hiatus with my friend Jean, my hollow book is almost done however, just need to make a few more cuts and I'll post pictures of the finished thing.
I've also decided to finally get my full driving license. I've had my probational one for long enough so I can take the test but I want to get more practice first. Getting the full driver's license counts for this goal as it is something I've wanted to do for a while.
And Theresa has been hinting that I should get it so I can drive her around. So yay, more encouragement. Though I won't take the test until after finals most likely.
And let's hope this doesn't happen.
Goal #4:
This is probably my worst goal so far. I've only done one book review so far and I haven't had time to finish other books or games thanks to my workload exploding. I'll probably make up for it in the future by doing two a month or something. Same applies to Goal #3.
And now I need to run off and continue studying for a midterm. I'll see you guys on Friday. A lot of people asked questions for my last post and I'll try and answer them as soon as I have a chance to properly read them all.
Hey, a little progress is better than none. Just keep working towards those goals!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with these Damien, seriously man you're doing an awesome job keeping up with these and getting so far, I'm proud to see you've made so much progress. Best of luck in that midterm as well mate.
ReplyDeleteWell good luck on the driving license, I know how tough that can be. Good luck with the rest of the goals too. Well done on keeping up checking as well :)
ReplyDeleteMy best friend is a psych major as well. He's have a very difficult time finding an internship. Here's to both you finding what you need!! Good luck :)
ReplyDeleteNice rsolutions!
ReplyDeleteI want to pass my driving license this year too, the regulations in my country are going to change and it will become helluva hard next year.
ReplyDeleteI do 100 push ups to every day, but you can make them easier by supporting your legs on a couch or something.
ReplyDeleteFitocracy... I might consider signing up. I need to get fit and it seems like a good guide. Thanks bro.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your goals
ReplyDeletewish u luck bro! cheers
ReplyDeleteGo for it!

I think you're doing great! If it had been me, I would have given up ages ago... your dedication to your goals is really commendable.
ReplyDeleteAt least you're doing your best to keep up with your goals. Don't give up!
ReplyDeleteHope you find a job soon, that sucks that there are none out there. Awesome that you are sticking with the goals, many have quit a long long time ago, like the day after..haha
ReplyDeleteP90X!
ReplyDeleteJust keep on at it bro! Remember: DaVinci, Newton, Einstein etc had the same amount of time that you had in this earth to do their sciency things. Surely you can do a bit of physical work?
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
I can't help you on the advertising stuff - I don't have advertisers on my blog, don't even know how it works....
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to wish you good luck on meeting all your goals!
I feel you about the job situation, man. I'm in the same position. Thank you very much for the Fitocracy site, that's what I've been looking for. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteNice Toyota. And Fitocracy is interesting, probably I'll try it.
ReplyDeleteWell, focussing on specific things such as resolutions is pretty hard when life's trying to screw you over. Manage that first, and come back to these with full power once you've made life your bitch instead of the other way around.
ReplyDeleteAlso if your wrists start hurting when you do pushups, your form probably isn't too good. Though that's coming from someone who just quit due to business after somewhere week four or five.
I can relate to all of this, any goal is going to be tricky.
ReplyDeletehaha this some funny shit bro
ReplyDeleteKeep working man, I like your blog
ReplyDeleteHope you're not straining yourself too much with the push ups. Maybe find some other exercises to supplement them, so you can do less push ups and give your hands and wrists a break? If something hurts, that's usually your body trying to tell you something.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all of your goals! It sounds like you're working hard and making progress--you'll get there. :)
I wish you the best on the driving license too! I know it can be a little 'stressful'.
ReplyDeleteThis is the time most gym membership attendance drops so you're doing well by that standard.
ReplyDeleteI know things can be hectic when trying to figure out life after college. Good luck with everything!
i like the fitocracy idea as a way to incentivize my workouts
ReplyDeleteGreat on the fitness goals. Find something you like to do, then it's easier to stick with it.
ReplyDeleteBest on the job. It seems tougher for college folks these days.
For the pushups, I like to take two dumbbells to make it much much easier on your wrists. Just put them shoulder length distance on the ground, grip them and do pushups. Much better imo!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your driving!
ReplyDeleteFound you a poem BTW. I'll post it nearer the week-end for you.
Good luck on driving! And be careful at night that was never easy for me
ReplyDeletegood luck
ReplyDeletehope you will reach where you want to
now thats dedication :D
ReplyDeleteConsidering how busy you've been? Sweet, you're doing alright.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your license. It is not so hard to pass the test after all :D
ReplyDeleteYou need some grips to help your wrists, or spread your hands wide open. Don't clench them as this will add to more pressure on your wrists.
ReplyDeleteProgress is progress...keep at them all and you'll get a break through
ReplyDeleteGreat goals, I really hope you get a job in psychology. Boy do I hate pushups, I'm a weak guy :(
ReplyDeleteKeep working hard brother! Don't let failure slow you down. Michael Jordan said he was so good because he missed 10,000 shots. Think about that.
ReplyDeleteShowing some ambition ey.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to the workout site, was kind of looking for something like that.
I really hate to rain on your parade young one. However when I went to UT long, long ago the only thing a BA in psychology was good for was to go on with and get your Masters or PhD. That's why after UT I went to commercial art school and wound up being an art director, not a psychologist.
ReplyDeleteBTW- In my book you do get that gold star. Keep the faith kiddo.
Gold stars and cookies that won't upset your tummy---! Kudos to you for still following through on your resolutions.
ReplyDeleteor you can use one of those non-slip dumbells for the push-ups.
ReplyDeletebetter than fists.
HAHA! you must be very busy the, but atleast get enough sleep so you can do push ups already :D
ReplyDeletemy job hunting sucks as well. I declined 5 interviews since it's from call center agents and everyone's telling me to focus more on a job that is in line with my field of specifications. Oh! I hate it. I just wanna be a student again :)
I find the same problem with push ups. There are a few push up bar things that you can use. Just google something like the perfect push up. They're definitely worth the investment.
ReplyDeleteAll the Grumpy Grumpster (that's me) can say is you've finally outblued the Blue One (that's me also). I'm sorry to hear it's so hard to find a job, DWei. I'll keep my finger crossed for you. It's a good idea to get your full driving license.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with those goals. And actually, i kinda forgot about that hollow ook til you reminded us! haha
ReplyDeleteGetting to 100 pushups is a big goal. The most important thing is really pushing out the last 2 or 3 reps, even when it's at the end of 70.
ReplyDeleteMcDonalds is always hiring. Work experience is ALWAYS valuable, even at McDonalds.
The "full test" was easy for me. Just drive around, be careful, and remember the weird little things you're "supposed" to do, but no one ever does. Like slowing down at uncontrolled intersections, and yielding right of way. Once you get it, go buy a beer and drive home immediately after. You're allowed now!
Books are overrated.
Congratulations on keeping up with your goals...by this time most people have totally forgotten any resolutions! You are an inspiration~
ReplyDeleteYes, go have a cookie or something!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the job hunt and driver's license!
If you just land yourself in prison you'll have far more time (and impetus) for doing push-ups, and you won't have to stress out about a job anymore. Right? Right?
ReplyDeleteT Rexs can do excellent sprints/hunting sprees though
ReplyDeletebest of luck
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think it's hard for psych majors to get jobs sometimes. You may want to befriend or cold call some psychologists in the area to see if they're hiring. Even if it's unpaid.
ReplyDeletekeep your perseverance up!
ReplyDeleteI noticed my earning were a little lower last month, but I figured that was just me. Anyway, that fitness site actually sounds kinda interesting. I might consider joining that, haha... But yeah, good luck with all that.
ReplyDelete3 cousins of mine are doing psychology - but apparently it's in very high demand here, hence the popularity of the course.
ReplyDeleteCan't say much about the push ups too. It's my most hated, I think.
Well you can combine Goal #3 and #4 while searching for a job write that review :) Nice post, good luck with your career overall.
ReplyDeleteYou are stuck exactly where I was with the push up challenge! I just couldn't progress past that point, but then I just thought how being able to do like 60 pushups was better then the 20 I started out as, so now I just keep doing week 4! So keep at it!
ReplyDeleteI actually didnt realize you did advertising! How does that work for you? I started to create a website...even have my own url but never followed through...is it worth it?
ReplyDeleteHeeeeeeeey.... where's my comment, DWei? - Anyway, good luck on trying to find a job. It's always tough, I know, but you'll manage eventually. And as for your driving license... that's one of the best investments ever! I've driven about 300,000 miles and I'm still not bored.
ReplyDeleteWell done for keeping up with your resolutions! I'm the same book wise, I started a book in october and am only half way through :/ I keep meaning to get back to it but I'm just never in the mood after uni.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your midterms also *thumbs up*
