Me not Healthy: Intestintal Adventures (Part 2)

Alright, it's been a while since I've talked about my health conditions. Not sure if anyone still remembers when I went and got the ultrasound and fluoroscopy but the results have been in for a while and I think it's about time I shared them.

Basically, it boils down to the picture below:

I'm serious. There is nothing wrong with my gastrointestinal track so far as the tests show. The fluoroscopy showed nothing. The ultrasound revealed microscopic kidney stones but my doctor assures me that if you search hard enough, you can find these in just about anyone.

Still, I probably should keep drinking copious amounts of water. I've heard enough horror stories of people passing these things.

I can only imagine the pain.

So, what's the cause behind my intestinal issues then? Doctor's not sure, he thinks that maybe my fibre intake isn't enough. And that's quite possible, I mean, my favorite food group is meat. So he suggests that I get some Metamucil and try that for a while.

Also, my frequent chest pains still haven't been explained. We thought it might be due to acid reflux but the antacid tablets did nothing for me. Though it could just due to stress. Who knows. None of the tests have revealed anything.

It really does feel like heartburn some days though.

But let's focus on the positives! I'm not as unhealthy as previously thought. Maybe this is just a few small things that are causing major problems with me. Though I guess it is kind of obvious that stress does all sorts of horrible things to your body.

It could also be due to lack of sleep as well I guess. I'm not going to think too deeply on that though. I'll talk about my sleep problems another day.

  1. You really should keep up with the water mate, water's always good for your insides no matter what so try not to stop. I'm glad to hear you got the all clear though buddy, that's good news at least.

  4. Alot of it probably boils down to the lack of sleep and stress. Trust me, I've had things stuck every which way too and not a thing was wrong. Although now you made me nervous saying I could have stones..LOL

  5. Well at least you are slightly healthier than first imagined. I have had tests come up with nothing when something is a problem though, such as my never ending heart burn. Which fucking sucks. Tests said there was no cause though. I'm a mutant I guess.

  6. I also have sleep problems. I hope everything goes well to you.

  7. Well, with all your papers and whatnot behind you, stress levels should get a bit lower, right?
And with so many possible problems and solutions already out of the "possible" field, the next thing you try might just be it. (And really, fibres are important.)

  10. lack of sleep and not eating well will make you feel like crap. That could be the whole problem right there.

  15. You know, when doctors start with their whole "not sure" thing.. it kinda upsets me.. Have you tried/considered a naturopath? It works different, they see things different, and it's not supposed to be expensive to visit one. Putting that out there, probably again, not sure.

Also, today's post might be for you. If you can't check it in time don't worry. I don't even need you to comment, just check the song out. It's the one by Jun Miyake.

  18. Well for a student you certainly do have a lot on your mind. Try to enjoy and relax...and I am glad the intestinal issue wasn't as serious but it is annoying when they can't find anything.

  19. maybe you need a relaxing holiday alone or with someone who wouldn't stress you up. nature has a way of healing and supplementing you sometimes, especially when it comes to stress.

  20. I'm glad you're not afflicted with some terrible 739 foot long intestinal worm! That's what I would have been worried about, if I were you ;) I agree that you need more sleep+more water. You'd be surprised at the difference it makes. Is your semester over yet?

  21. I'm glad that your tests came back as good as they did. As far as the kidney stones go- they are worse than you can imagine. Sadly I know this firsthand.

Drink lots of H20 that true; but also moderate your intake of high oxylate foods. Black tea is #1 on the kidney stone hit list. Foods also to watch are sweet potatoes, spinach, chocolate, soy and nuts.

Our daughter had them last fall and she was just 25. She thought she was dying.

There's a list online of the oxylate content of food. If you do eat a high oxylate food, make sure to drink a copious amount of water both before and after. If you're a little careful you can probably avoid them altogether- the kidney stones that is.

  22. Well, good to hear you're not as bad as you thought. Good luck with getting over that stress though.

  23. yay for small victories.

  24. Glad to hear it was nothing major. I find it hard for me to stay on a decent sleep schedule when I have some time off. When I have work or school I'm pretty much forced into a decent sleep schedule.

  25. I got kidney stones before and it hurts like crap. At first, we thought it was appendicitis since the pain is in my abdomen area. Then after some time, the pain reached my balls and I was like "Oh, shit!" then I was hospitalized for 3 days.

  26. Yeah, a diet high in meat isn't so good for the digestive tract. Eating fruit is a heck of a lot more fun than Metamucil...unless you don't like fruit :)

  27. Hello! I wish good health to you and to everybody!

    ReplyDelete
  28. good that nothing is serious

    ReplyDelete
  29. Nothing wrong? Have you analyzed your diet?

  30. kidney stones suck dude, a friend of mine had them and he was literally crying while he pissed them out

  31. I recommend Nexium for acid reflux

  32. I'm glad to hear that there was nothing serious to report! Totally agree with you drinking more water, though! That could never hurt :)

  33. I feel for you. I was hospitalized back in February because of severe abdominal and chest pain. Got scoped and prodded. Fun, fun, fun. I need more fiber, too. What a way to find out. ;) Hope you continue to feel better and that as soon as you can, relax. Stress causes so very many problems.

  34. If it makes you feel any better i have a bad back at the moment, i eeven needed to get a walking stick, which meant i got some looks from older people. I know stress can effect the digestive system, have you tried meditation?. YOU FOCUS ON THE GOOD THINGS IN YOUR LIFE OR ON THE THINGS YOU WANT TO CHANGE, BREATHING DEEPLY AND HAVING A PLACE TO RELAX CAN BE INVALUABLE

  35. You would be surprised how simple stress can affect the body. Yoga could be a something to try.

  36. Dude, reflux + sleep problems = sleep apnea for me. My doctor's didn't catch it until I did some research. Fucking doctors. I'm glad to hear you're healthy!

  37. Great news that there's nothing medically wrong! But I suppose at the same time it must be frustrating to getting to the bottom of the problem. hopefully you'll feel better from the chest pains and stuff soon! Maybe they'll slowly disappear now your school works over?

  38. Good to know there's nothing wrong!
Hopefully the chest pains will go away soon. Good luck!
