Random Assortments Post

Lots of little unrelated things to discuss in this post today so don't expect any form of coherency. When something bigger or more interesting happens in my life you can expect a post on that. But until then, this kind of a post will have to make due.

First off, congrats to Obama winning the elections last night. I don't usually like to discuss politics on my blog but this is kind of a significant event so it deserves some form of mention. Also hard to not notice it seeing as all my friends on Facebook kind of exploded.

Is this a good or bad thing? Hard to say. Though I guess it's true that once you go black, you can't go back.

Now if Canada could only get rid of Stephen Harper... I hate the man for trying to censor the Internet up here.

Should this man really represent us?

Next thing is snow. It literally went from just leaves on the ground to up to 25cm of snow overnight. There have been over 200 collisions, buses take forever to get anywhere, parts of highways have been closed off, and the last I heard, the light rail transit was shut down too.

Getting to classes tomorrow is going to be so much fun.

I should be used to it I guess. Though my friends from the province of BC are just laughing. I hate them so much right now.

Last thing, I'm booking an appointment with my doctor. My lungs will not leave me alone and they're starting to hurt sporadically. It's not longer just random breathlessness or discomfort, it's pain not unlike when my lung was healing from surgery. I'm not sure what's happening, but the fact that this has been occurring on and off for over 2 weeks now is getting me worried.

Plus I promised Theresa I'd get it checked out if it continued. Also can't let her know because she's busy again with exams and I can't afford to be stressing her out with my health problems.

Also she won't have time to read my blog so no worries about her finding out from this.

And if she does see this post, this otter will distract her.

Alright, back to work. See you guys on Saturday.

Me not Healthy: Allergies (Part 2)

Usually, I'm a giant sneezing and itchy mess when spring/summer finally comes around. Red eyes, runny nose, itchy palette, I've experienced that garbage more times than I care to remember. However, this year was pretty good. Nothing in February, March or April. Which is very strange.

Maybe it had something to do with all the random bouts of snow we've been getting. You know, killing flowers, catching all the pollen or something.

See? Living in Canada has its benefits!

And I was looking forward to getting through May with no problems at all. But it always starts slowly.

First your eyes feel a bit itchy, along with the roof of your mouth. Maybe you ate something you were allergic to. Either way something doesn't feel right.

And then you sneeze and your face is just covered in a spray of liquid. And you'd wipe your face off except you're still sneezing and you're just making a huge mess all over the place.

Make it stop!

It could be due to the snow I guess. Maybe it trapped all the pollen and dust together and when it melted released it all at the same time. Like some kind of allergy bomb.

So right now I'm having the worst pollen allergies I've had in a long time. As in, if I don't have tissue paper with me when it hits, my nose is going to look like a disgusting waterfall in a minute. Really not fun when you're trying to brush your teeth or when you're eating lunch with your girlfriend.

Yes... This will make the food more appetizing...

I'm really considering changing anti-histamine brands. Normally I use Reactine, it has served me well over the years and acted quickly.

Right now, I'm questioning if it even works on some days. Sometimes I'll take 1 and hours later I'm still dribbling like some 12 year old who can't wipe his nose properly. And when it does work, it's certainly much later than the advertised 20 minutes.

At least it's cheaper from the other stuff I've seen. Guess you get what you pay for.

Yay drugs!

Maybe I'll do what my Aunt does and take the anti-histamine before she sleeps. Maybe I need to switch brands.

Maybe I need to stay in the basement and never leave the house again until all the plants are dead.

Mother Nature Hates us

Stereotypes. A popular belief about a specific group of individuals. I stole that straight from Wikipedia. One my favorites is that it's always snowing in Canada, no matter what. And as much as I'd like to say this isn't true, this last month has not been convincing.

March was nice and clean. It was warming up and most of the snow was gone. And then like some sick joke, it snowed on April Fool's day.

But it got warmer, the snow melted. All was well. It looked like things were back to normal.

Until one week later.

We probably got hit with about 20cm of wet, slushy snow that just coated the area. Trees all over campus were snapping in half and having branches torn off. I even managed to snap a picture or two with my phone before running inside. Because you know, I'm an idiot being in this weather with just a hoodie for protection.

Unfortunately my phone isn't working so here's what the pictures mostly look like.

And for everyone who has had the pleasure of driving in winter conditions you know how the snow melts in the day, becomes a slushy mess to walk through and then freezes during the night.

Well, now we have a driving and walking hazard. Sheets of ice layered all across the city in every conceivable place. Oh, and now the snow isn't nice and soft anymore. It froze overnight too so have fun breaking you fall with one of those.

Pretty much.

But again, things warmed up. The weather got nice again. Rained a bit which is normal. Things are looking good now that my finals are nearly finished. I'll be able to go out and do things with Theresa again.

I look out the window this morning and what do I see.

It's snowing.

Again.

Seriously.

Looks like I can't get a break no matter what I do.
