Me Not Healthy: The Lung Cysts (Part 3)

For those that are new to my blog, welcome! You're joining us at the end of a small story arc about my poor health and lungs. Click here for Part 1 and here for Part 2.

A quick recap from last time, I've been deemed healthy enough to be sent back to the comfort of my own home. They bandaged up the hole where the chest tube was and told me that the stitches in the other two incisions would eventually dissolve on their own. I only really remember two things from my at home recovery. 1. I slept a lot. 2. My hair starts to smell really bad even after just a week without a shower.

In the hospital I was pretty much just given a damp cloth to wipe myself down with. At home I was too busy sleeping, glad to no longer be interrupted by check-ups and x-rays. I couldn't shower at home just yet because I had to wait a few days to allow for the chest tube hole to partial heal up because I don't think I want excess water just sloshing around inside me. You have no idea how good it felt to get that first shower. You just feel refreshed, clean and rejuvenated.

That cat has no idea what it's missing out on.

A few more weeks pass and we go to see the doctor again. More x-rays are taken and I look and feel perfectly fine. They remind me again that there is a 95% chance that they got all the cysts. I should not have anymore problems.

And four days later I feel what I think is a cyst bursting.

Seriously?

And this hasn't been an isolated situation. Either they didn't get all the cysts, they're somehow coming back or I've gone crazy. Sometimes it's just a short period of difficulty breathing but recently pain has returned. Just last week I was walking up some stairs when suddenly I bent over in pain and stood there for a good minute. Oh, and did I mention that my right lung probably has cysts too? I've felt something wrong in it but a cat scan wasn't done on that side because it didn't happen as often as the left lung. And did I also mentioned the only way they can do anything is probably with more surgery?

So there's not much I can do other than hope the problem goes away on its own. I don't have time to go for another surgery even if it is free in Canada. It took me well over a month to recover so I think I'll just let it keep happening.

Insert obscure MSPA reference here.

On a side note, everytime it does happen I have a tendency to sleep in which pisses off my parents to no end. They think I'm being lazy and I'll let them keep thinking that. Better to have them think that than worrying about my stupid lungs again.

Speaking of sleep, that's another health problem I probably have. Maybe another day I'll discuss it.

  1. People get the idea I'm lazy and I would rather have them think that too. Then again I could just be lazy. Aren't there some cysts that will actually just keep regrowing? That poor kitty cat though. Sorry but right now I kinda feel worse for the kitty than I do for you. I hope it's nothing serious and all, but...kitty.

  4. Damn...Sucks to hear about your health problems.
I'm just overweight, and I think I might have hypoglycemia. Also I'm insane, but that's a mental health problem...

  6. wow man that's tough. I still can't imagine getting free health care. Sounds fuckin great.

  7. Thats pretty bizarre that they wouldn't scan both sides. Hopefully there aren't any though!

  8. I wish you all the best man. I hope they go away on their own, but if you happened to have cysts again, do the right thing and get surgery. Dont let things get worse.

  12. Sorry to hear about your health problems man. Seems like you lucked out in the genetic lottery pretty badly. Look forward to hearing about your sleep problems if you want to share them. I've struggled to sleep since I can remember so it would be interesting to hear how you deal with your problems.

  14. Interesting story, I don't know if I've said this before but it's really nice to heart the inside of a patient. And you know what to do to sleep better.. Get more sunlight during the day and less sunlight in the evening, no pc, tv or mobile phone atleast 1 hour before sleep. Get a book with a very dim light. You'll sleep and wake up like a charm, in a week or a little more, you will never need an alarm again.

  15. Lung cysts? That's just straight up a cruel disease to have.

  16. You speak the truth about showers. You don't know how good one can feel till you have had to do without one for a while.

  17. So many people-- Americans, wishing they could. I guess a lot of them would probably be just like you, anyway.

By no means an insult or anything, it's not comfortable and I get that. I just think it's interesting.

  18. You are suffering from lung cyst and the doctor didn't even bother to check your other lung? That's kinda lazy in my opinion. They could have solved the problem there if they just double checked.

  19. I've been following your depressing lung story, do you know why you get it? is it genetic?
anyway, i would say a little bit of inconvenience (even if it is for a month) is a really really small price to pay for your health. I mean ultimately you're going to have to do something about it eventually, why not go for the surgery again now?

also on a completely irrelevant note, the cat in the pic is adorable...

  20. So, basically, that surgery did not help you at all..that sucks

  21. Damn, that sounds pretty scary. I hope you'll be okay.

  22. Rats. I'm sorry you're still dealing with the cysts. Hope you will reconsider a second surgery...if the doctors think it will help. Take care~

  23. This makes me sad, mate. :S I hope everything ends well. :)

  24. Oh young one I will keep you in my thoughts and send healthy vibes your way.

You're being considerate to take the flak from your folks about being lazy rather than worrying them about your lungs until you're sure. Still, don't be stoic too long. When you finally know that you need help, be sure to ask for it.

  30. that cat is cute. she/he looks adorable and sad. hahaha! maybe he/she doesn't want a shower. haha!

as for you, think positive. Doctors will get all that cysts that burdens you. 95% percent is a huge chance already. don't worry too much. it will just stress you out..^_^

  31. You should probably tell your parents though, that way you'll save explanations if something bad happens.

    also, poor kitty...

    ReplyDelete
  32. I really hope you get better.

  33. That sounds horrible! I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I wish there was something they could do for you.

  41. Holy cow, that sounds tough. Stay strong and don't stop fighting. Nice blog btw...following.

  42. Good grief...I'm so sorry you're having a tough time right now. I've been struck down by Freshers Flu but I'm not sure it's the same thing at all, in fact I'm certain it's not, and no worries, I am anticipating that exams are going to be a bit of a pain.

  43. I certainly AM lazy, but it is good to make people think its to a greater degree just so they don't get worried when I barricade myself at home for like, a week at a time.

  44. This sounds awful, I hope you can get yourself better soon even if it requires more surgery :(
