My Little Rant

I'm just warning everyone beforehand that this post is going to be somewhat whiny. I've had my monthly quota of nonsense and I really don't want anymore. So if you don't enjoy hearing blog posts about people venting about their lives, ignore my post and leave a comment below about sea urchins.

Because they're delicious.

But the source of my irritation comes from people. For whatever reason I appear to be the go-to person whenever someone has issues with their life. Maybe it's because I'm getting a degree in Psychology. And you know what? Usually I don't mind.

But a friend of mine has a problem, actually, he has numerous problems. And he's kind of a drama king. Imagine if the Annoying Facebook Girl was Asian and male and bam, you have this guy.

. . . .

See, the thing about him is that it's partially not his fault, so he claims. He probably does have some form of mental or anxiety disorder that causes him to be like this. HOWEVER, this does NOT justify posting your every thought or whine on your Facebook wall. And then texting me how the girl you like doesn't like you and going into detail about your session with your psychologist.

And he exaggerates and/or lies a lot too. So I half the time I'm doubting what he says. One moment he's telling me he's going to run away to Montana, next minute he tells me that the police broke into his house because they thought he was going to commit suicide. Then he's going into detail about how smoking medicinal marijuana is awesome because it helps with his schizophrenia.

Sad thing is, half the above is true and/or happened. I'm not telling which.

But then I had another friend who was depressed and suicidal. And it's not fun, often dealing with both these people simultaneously. It's very draining especially when when one guy clearly just wants attention and the other guy refuses to seek professional help. Usually all I could do was sit, listen and offer my unprofessional opinion on what to do.

After a few weeks, 1 guy is better (I hope), and the other guy is still talking about devices to enlarge his various body parts. Myself, I'm growing apathetic to people's problems.

Ugh...

Oh and to make things better Theresa is refusing to talk to me. I'm receiving her infamous cold shoulder for whatever reason. Normally I would just attribute it to stress and schoolwork but I can still see you being active on Facebook talking to other people. And even when you were really busy you'd still send me a text or instant message. Meanwhile I haven't seen her in a week and she hasn't communicated with me in days. It's clear she's avoiding me.

And you know what, fine, be that way. I'm tired of dealing with people and the apathy is spreading to other parts of my social life. Whenever you're ready to talk with me again I'll be here waiting. I'm not going to you and finding out what the problem is. I've had enough of other people's problems.

Precisely.

I'll have a post about the China trip on Sunday, including answers to a majority of the questions people asked. I just needed a post to vent about personal problems because I really don't have anywhere else to. Normally I'd talk to Theresa but I can't go to someone who currently wants nothing to do with me.

  1. Hey, I know the feeling well - but you know, at some point you have to stop being that guy who listens to everyone's problems. I had a couple of friends like that - and at some point I realized I really couldn't help them. So whenever they went into one of their moods I just stayed away until they were over it. Might feel a little mean - I don't really think the alternative helps either them or you.

Hope things sort out with Theresa!

  2. Yeah. I've been there. That's when I started bailing on friendships and started only working on a handful of important ones. Important to me. It took me a few months to get to the conclusion that I had to do that, though.

Also, could it, maybe possibly by a slimmer of a chance be, that the Theresa thing is because you're going to be away for a long time? Because I've been in a situation where that's exactly what happened. Just mentioning, won't hurt.

Also, uh, sea urchins are.. awesome.

  3. I sort of know that feel, man. I'm a good listener so people usually come to me if they have something to rant about, and I'm fine with that (even though it hasn't happened a lot recently for some reason).
But sometimes you're just sick of other people's bullshit, and want to rant about your own troubles, but nobody's willing ti listen. ):

    Keep your heads up man~

  4. Some people are like that. Maybe, we can ignore that so we can't be affected. Life is beautiful!

  5. Ignore! If it's affects or ruins your day. :) SMILE!

  6. It's easy to become tired of other people's problems. I hope your social life gets better soon.

Also, I didn't know you could eat sea urchins.

  7. You should totally block him on facebook. And remember, you have your own problems to worry about.

  8. yes it happens people lie lot
    good luck

  9. I really hate those kinds of people. When it's a trait in a male it's especially irksome, it's kind of excusable if it's a chick, agh! Looking forward to the post about your trip to China buddy.

  10. I can be a bit of a drama king, and I know I can be a burden to my friends, but I'm not that bad. I do have a lot of things that go wrong for me, but I usually work them out on my own. Sometimes. I hope Theresa comes around, but don't be afraid of being the one to try and open up the lines of communication.

  11. How about those sea urchins?...lol

Sounds like quite the pain in butt, you need to lock your door and hideaway from all the depressing people for a while, been down the suicidal path with people and it isn't fun, most of the time they are just attention whores anyway.

  14. My fave sentence: "it's partially not his fault, so he claims." But seriously you can tell these guys you do not want to talk to them about such things. It is nice to help someone who wants help but what they do is not your responsibility. Sorry about Teresa :-(

  15. Wow! I'm glad that I don't really have any friends in real life. I don't want any of those troubles you are experiencing with them.

  16. Feel free to come to my place and vent anytime young time young one. Sadly however all I did today at my place was throw a tantrum. I think I need my meds upped.

  17. Ouch maybe she'll cheer up soon

  18. Fair enough, good justifiable rant and has been absorbed....

  19. Hey dude, it sounds like a tough social problem. That sucks, because it tends to spread to other areas of your life. What I'd do is try to communicate a little better and be prepared to cut people out if they're not willing to meet your needs. Idk who this Theresa is, but if she wants out of your life let her go. Nothing makes an (soon to be) ex-madder than seeing their ex having a great time without them. Good luck!

  20. sea urchins are beautiful and deadly little buggers. ;)

  21. I'm so sorry! We had one of your attention seekers at our church once. She was also always trying to raise money for something she really needed, but there was ALWAYS something. When people got tired of being used and under appreciated, she joined another church. I remember fighting the urge to run when I saw her coming, though because after awhile, no matter how much of a friend/good Christian you want to be, you realize you're not making things any better and nothing can. I am glad your depressed friend is better, though. Take heart, you helped the person who COULD be helped and you did it just by listening.

  22. Dealing with people is takes work, so just relax at the end of the day.

  23. People really annoy me sometimes, and that's probably the reason why I can't commute without listening to music.

  24. Sounds like a very rough week. Hope things with Theresa improve, my friend~

  25. Ohhh I've had friends like this! Psychology major? That's awesome! You best get used to people like this now though...hahaha

  26. as tempting as it is to say something meaningful about all this, and I did read it all, I think I'd rather stick with the sea urchins, which I know nothing about

    ReplyDelete
  27. Don't get pulled down, because of stuff like this. Life goes on ;).

    ReplyDelete
  28. wow, thats like half the people on FB i know. well before i realised i could hide ALL posts by that person. now there is nothign to do on fb

    ReplyDelete
  29. good luck with that! ^_^

but, maybe it would be better if you'll just ignore her, aye?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Sorry to hear about your troubles with the friend and gf. Hope things get better soon.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Huh. I didn't know sea urchins were edible!

You'd think people would catch on after a while that what they're doing is inconsiderate and annoying . . . but, of course, they don't.

  32. Rant on brother. People suck, but sometimes they are cool!

    ReplyDelete
  33. isn't it a bit strange, Damien, that listening to people's problems bothers you and you want to be a psychologist?

    ReplyDelete
  34. You should just give out bad advice until you aren't the go-to guy anymore :D

    ReplyDelete
  35. sorry to hear about this drama king. cant you avoid him? i find putting up with drama kings and queens sucks the energy out of me. so when i know i cant handle it, i just leave them be.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh I hate the "cold shoulder". Theresa should tell you what the problem is. Maybe she's breaking up with you?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Dude, why do you still have him in your friend list then? Even if you cant unfriend him, you could unsubscribe or whatever. Also just avoid him and pretty soon he'll get the picture.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Good venting.
It's quite cathartic when you right down all the shit that people do to annoy you! I became annoyed at that guy after reading this! but now feel better after writing down I was annoyed :)

  39. I hope things are calmer and more at equilibrium with each other now. I'm so sorry you're going through so much - I guess the Theresa thing (which I know scant about so forgive any faux pas!) is probably what's making you feel worse. I hope Spring will bring some kind of closure for everyone around you! Take care

  40. Running away to Montana or committing suicide...?
    Isn't that redundant?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Sea urchins.

No, really I'm sad to hear you've been dealing with all this. Everyone has their own problems but it should share and share alike not everyone dumping on you. Hope things improve with Theresa and your friends too. Though, those that are making you feel bad on a regular basis probably aren't worth your time.

  42. I married a drama queen for the challenge/entertainment...
Sometimes you've just got to be straight with them...but I'm no expert.

    Great rant though!

  43. Hope you had a great weekend!

  44. Sometimes a good rant is necessary.
Can't say I've ever tried a sea urchin...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Bahhh, annoying. Blogger is a good place to rant, though. Get it all out!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Sorry bro. I got so sick of a few people, that act like your drama king, that I have completely severed all ties to them and haven't heard from them in about 4 years now. It's been a good 4 years. perhaps try to slowly distance yourself from him and show less interest in his crap over time. If he doesn't get the attention he wants from you he will go elsewhere and you will regain sanity

    ReplyDelete
  47. Haha, still an entertaining rant. I know a few people like this... ><

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well, I can't speak to any of your actual problems, but I can throw my two cents in about sea urchins. Inedible. They've always tasted like chunky pond water to me, and I was really *hoping* to like them.

    Prove me wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I wish we were all friends with the sea-urchins. They never load anyone else up with their real or imaginary problems. Hope stuff is better for you now. Off to read the second Yu post, then the post today.
